Salamandre Rouge is that darker, incredibly fruity and plump Southern Rhône red that shows the warmth of the region but the finesse of the variety. 100% Syrah, hand harvested, destemmed by hand and then macerated for 3 weeks in tank, this is a red equally rich in colour, flavour and body.
The Salamandre wines are grown and made by Domaine du Château Saint-Cyrgues. Located in Saint Gilles, which borders the Camargue region (think wild white ponies and fresh French salt) at the mouth of the Rhône River, Château Saint-Cyrgues was built on the ruins of the Church of Saint-Cirice de Marge in 1654. This abbey had at one time been part of the Saint Cyrgues priory, where cultivation of vine was part of the monks’ daily rituals, as was drinking Vin Jaune. Today, the Domaine produces excellent, forward-thinking wines that honour their region and history.
